Umm el-Jimal staff have been privileged to work closely with a variety of partners, from academic institutions and research centers to not-for-profit organizations and government agencies. The following entities have provided logistical, research, and other critical forms of collaborative support.

Open Hand Studios

Open Hand Studios is a nonprofit organization that partners with academics, communities, and the international public to create hands-on museum exhibits and virtual media that nurture social justice. In addition to providing web design, database, GIS, and engineering services, Open Hand is now collaborating with project staff and local residents to explore community and museum projects at Umm el-Jimal.

Center for Ancient Middle Eastern Landscapes
The Center for Ancient Middle Eastern Landscapes (CAMEL) is a research department of the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago specializing in geographic information systems and Near Eastern archaeology. CAMEL staff have facilitated the acquisition of high-resolution satellite imagery, as well as provided GIS technical support and design advice.

Electronic Tools and Ancient Near Eastern Archive
ETANA is an electronic publishing project on ancient Near Eastern history and culture by a consortium of academic institutions. Umm el-Jimal is a contributing archaeology project to ETANA, and appears in its digital library and online database.

Digital Archaeological Atlas of the Holy Land

DAAHL is a spatially-based cyberinfrastructure for scholars and the general public on the history and culture of the Levant. It is a project of the University of California—San Diego’s Center for Interdisciplinary Science for Art, Architecture and Archaeology (CISA3). Additional partners include UCSD’s Levantine Archaeology Laboratory, UCSD’s Supercomputing Center, and the Geo-Archaeological Information Applications Laboratory (GAIA Lab) at Arizona State University. Umm el-Jimal will be included in DAAHL, and UJ staff are currently exploring more collaboration with its founders.
