New Web Site Under Construction

The Umm el-Jimal project is developing ummeljimal.org in conjunction with Open Hand Studios as part of an ongoing effort to explore new methods of publishing, archiving, and sharing archaeological research with academics and the public alike. The current site is envisioned to meet four basic needs:

1.      form a transitional replacement of the archaeology project’s previous, outdated site;
2.      provide a brief overview of the project and site, especially to maintain availability of UJ publications;
3.      serve as an experimental vehicle in completing the project’s eventual comprehensive digital archive;
4.      and communicate information about current and future work at UJ.

Though the site is under construction, more content will be added regularly. Of special concern is using the latest research and appropriate technology to construct an easily-accessible, comprehensive, interactive reconstruction of what Umm el-Jimal could have looked like in antiquity: the Research section’s UJ Reconstructed page is a first step toward that goal. Moreover, we welcome feedback both on the site and project as a whole. Visit the Support section for more information, or contact staff directly using Feedback.
