At the beginning of the 20th century Druze families from the surrounding region reinhabited Umm el-Jimal. Over the past century a thriving modern community has sprung up around the long-dormant ruins—and two generations of residents have made valuable contributions to their preservation and study. Recent research at Umm el-Jimal is focusing on the present people and history of Umm el-Jimal, from the perspective of community members and leaders. This section will take a detailed look at this vibrant community, ongoing conservation work by the Department of Antiquities, as well as other current projects and events at Umm el-Jimal.
